About Devika Brij

“I know what it’s like to feel unseen and undervalued. But I also know the power of turning those experiences into purpose and creating something bigger than the rejection that tried to define me.”

I was raised in a single-parent household, watching my mother juggle multiple jobs to provide for my sisters and me. As an immigrant with an education in business, her only option was to take roles lower than her qualifications as she was building her life in North America. Her resilience shaped me, but so did the quiet truth that living in survival mode often leaves little room for self-advocacy.

From a young age, I absorbed a “take what you can get” mentality—a mindset common among underrepresented groups, including people of color, women, and first- and second-generation immigrants. It took several years to unlearn this mindset, discovering that advocacy is essential to commanding the career and life I wanted.

After years of proving myself and climbing the ranks across some of the world’s biggest brands, including Google and LinkedIn, I was promoted to a highly visible leadership role in one of the world’s largest social media companies after five years of delivering consistent results and demonstrating determination. However, I soon found myself reporting to a manager who not only questioned my abilities but my integrity. Despite consistently being a top performer with a strong track record of driving results, building meaningful client relationships and earning the respect of peers and leaders, my performance was unfairly scrutinized. For months, I endured blindsiding, bullying and relentless micromanagement. My manager began creating a case against me, painting a false narrative that undermined my contributions and questioned my character. I found myself constantly asking, Should I just stay quiet, cooperate at all costs, and take what I can get to keep this opportunity? Ultimately, the relentless campaign against me led to my termination—a moment that forced me to confront the deeply ingrained mindset of survival that told me to accept whatever came my way, even if it meant sacrificing my dignity. It left me questioning my worth, my value and the very foundation of what I believed about advocating for myself.

But God.

Rather than allow that rejection to define me, it catapulted me into starting Brij the Gap, a leading talent and leadership development firm. I turned that painful chapter into a purpose-driven mission: equipping individuals, leaders and organizations with the tools to advocate for themselves, foster growth and create environments where people feel valued and empowered to thrive.

Through Brij the Gap, my book Thrive in Color and speaking at global brands like Visa, Reddit, Converse, Meta, Pinterest and Lionsgate, I share actionable tools that transform resilience, self-advocacy and leadership. My story resonates with those navigating challenges in their careers and lives, reminding them that rejection doesn’t have to define their future—it can be the beginning of something greater.

Whether speaking to corporate teams on leadership development, entrepreneurs navigating the complexities of business ownership or faith-based audiences seeking purpose and resilience, I provide frameworks and strategies that empower individuals to take ownership of their growth and success.

What I am most grateful for is knowing that our shared experiences, the triumphs and the setbacks, can be transformed into something meaningful. We are proof that nothing we’ve faced, no challenge or rejection, has placed us beyond the reach of growth, purpose and impact. This knowledge has kept me grounded and honored to walk alongside others as they uncover their strength and create lives of significance and fulfillment.
